Spring 2005

We had a traditional Easter hunt this year. I was woken at
5:30 AM by Daniel - a highly unusual event. Camille gets up
early, but Daniel never does. I shooed him away with a
"go back to bed, it's too early to get up." He went away and
reappeared 10 minutes later. It struck me then that it was Easter
morning and Camille had rousted him. Sure enough, she was
just outside the door, having sent him as the messenger.
Molly worked late the night before and I was in charge of Easter.
I bought the plastic eggs and trinkets from Archie McPhee in
Ballard the day before, but I forgot to stuff the eggs and hide them
before crashing Saturday night. I was pretty groggy still, but thinking
quickly, I said I'd better go check to see the Easter bunny was
still here or had left. Camille said she had looked out the window
and didn't see any eggs. It was pouring rain. She then added that
the Easter bunny must have hid them inside because of the rain.
I quickly concurred and scurried to the basement to fill the eggs
and hide them in the living room and dining room. Camille and
Daniel seemed none the wiser. Camille was disappointed to
discover that the eggs just had toys and no candy. I told her
that the Easter bunny was probably concerned about her health.

Molly said she wanted a volcano cake for Mother's day.
Daniel helps in the time-honored tradition by licking the
chocolate covered mixing instruments.

Camille made Molly a lovely Mother's day book. Molly reads
it in bed with two admirers.

Breakfast in bed was de rigueur. I had to make enough for
Molly "to share."

We had a picnic at Richmond Beach Park, an old gravel mine.

Daniel deconstructs his sandwich.

Playing in a found fort constructed of driftwood.
Ron (Molly's father) and Carolyne came recently to watch Molly
do a half marathon in Olympia. They stayed in the Canal Cottages
in Ballard, near the Ballard locks.

The kids appreciate and play with gifts bought by the grandparents.

Camille's latest trick is to climb the door jamb without assistance.

Nicer weather means more bike riding. Notice the absence of training
wheels on Camille's bike, a recent change.

Camille dances with a classmate at Carnevale, a school-sponsored event, then later at
home with Daniel in a pink dress.

Daniel looks up from making a mask at the Carnevale.

Daniel plays in a "car" manufactured by Camille from
a cardboard box.

Showing perfect form, Daniel whacks one out of the park.

Pure satisfaction.

One day, while I was busy, the kids disappeared upstairs and reappeared
as such. Camille had recently had lunch at a pizzeria and seen the cooks
dressed up. Here we have two pizza makers, complete with aprons and
floppy "hats."

Three headstands. Is that Avrelle or Christina in the middle?
