July 2004

In early July we went to a camp above (9000+ ft) Colorado
Springs. Here's a view of Pike's Peak from the camp.
We drove to the top of it. I was dizzy, lightheaded, and
had tunnel vision after walking 50 feet on the level
from the car to the observation deck.

Camille and Daniel watch for the arrival of our plane in Seattle.

Here are the remaining children of Rudy and Myra Raser.
Esther, Bonnie, Lois, Carol, and Evy. Molly's mother, Amanda,
and John have passed away.

Here they are with their spouses - Earl, Chris, and Earl.

Here are the "first cousins".

Their spouses.

The "fantastic five" oldest first cousins.

The "second cousins."

Here's Amanda's descendants and relations. In front, Diana, Dylan,
Camille, Molly, and Daniel. In back Alex, Kiara, and me.

Dale and Alex show us their best sides.

We spent July 4th before the reunion in Colorado Springs,
taking in an outdoor concert and fireworks, replete with actual
cannons fired by military men during the requisite 1812 overture.

This was Camille and Daniel's first time seeing live fireworks. They
were mesmerized.

We met up with Alex, Diana, Kiara, and Dylan at the
Garden of the Gods the next day for a picnic lunch
of muy auténtica comida Mexicana.

The landscape at the Garden of the Gods.

Many activities were available at the camp. Here Kiara climbs
a ladder to the "Zip Line" - a terrifying (to me) leap off a
perfectly good platform and down a wire while harnessed in.

Rudy sends the outfielders scrambling while
makes a home run.

Camille smiles by the zip line.

Of course, there's ice cream in the evenings.

Daneen sings for the talent show.

Aaron and Trent pretend to be midgets and tell
very corny jokes.

Myra and Melissa review their respective teams'
answers to the family history trivia quiz.

Kiara reads "Annabel Lee" by Poe.

Daniel plays outdoors. Note his preference for pink. He's been cross-dressing
a lot lately.

Camille and Kiara color in the main room.

Daniel was overwhelmed by all the strangers. Toward the end of the week, he
actually let Karen and Daneen get close to him.

Diana and Molly catch up.

Kiara reads to Rubin and Boaz.

After the reunion was over, we were graciously invited
to stay with Michael, Melissa, Rudy and Erika, who are
converting a Baptist church in Colorado City into their home.

We slept in a tent. Here, Daniel is surrounded by an enormous
pile of blankets and pillows. "Muffin Man"

Michael set up his pottery wheel and showed us how to throw a pot.

Amazingly, Rudy, had never thrown a pot.

A parting photo from our front yard.
